Based in World
Originally from Portland, Oregon, and now based in Skamania, Washington, Foster Huntington is a blogger, photographer, filmmaker, and author whose work explores alternative living. His early work, including the blog 'A Restless Transplant,' featured his photography and gained recognition. After a period as a concept designer in New York City, he shifted his focus in 2011, choosing to live in a Volkswagen van and travel the West Coast. During this period, he coined and popularized the term '#VanLife' on Instagram, inspiring a global community to explore nomadic living. His body of work includes published books such as *Van Life: Your Home on the Road* and *Off Grid Life: Your Ideal Home in the Middle of Nowhere*. Another project, "The Burning House," evolved from a blog into a book, prompting reflection on sentimental possessions. Demonstrating his commitment to self-sufficient living, he designed and built "The Cinder Cone," a multi-platform treehouse in the Columbia River Gorge that serves as his home and studio for film and photo projects. His philosophy emphasizes freedom, self-expression, and minimalism, often exploring themes of unconventional dwellings and a deliberate connection to the outdoors. While acknowledging social media's role, he prioritizes genuine creation over digital metrics, maintaining a unique approach to living and creating.
